White Mo returned to Bruno's on November 12th and had the good fortune to have some members of "Juicy" set in and kick it up a notch. Chris is the guitarist for the band, so check em' out some weekend when you get the chance. The performance also marked the return of Mar C on the blues harp...a job well done! The Mo' had to give a performance at O'Kays on May 17th without our "extractor of the ivory" , Dave Pearcy. Dave had to make emergency travel plans to be with his mother in TX. Our prayers and thought go out to he and his family. The gig went "O'Kay", but it just wasn't the same without him (although the volume appeared to be about the same.........we know how to fill up any potential silent exposure). I believe we will have the whole gang back in June......see everyone then!

A large and enthusiastic crowd gathered at Blues BBQ in Charleston on June 16th to watch the newly "expanded" White Molasses take the stage. A good time was had by all and the good folks at Blues really took care of the band and thirsty patrons. Bar none, Blues has the best beer selection in Charleston and great food to boot! Look for some more dates at Blues coming up in July and August. John Boy also recorded the event so look for music updates in the near future. A full pics page of the event will also be added soon!

Linda Workman makes her White Molasses debut at The First Presbyterian Church "Coffee Shop" in Charleston, WV. This was the last Coffee House of the season for the Church, but hopefully they will have us back this Fall. A fairly large crowd ranging from teens to seniors made it out to the rockin' blues of the 'Mo. My voice was just a memory due to a stubborn cold that would not go away so Linda stepped up and sang some extras that she had not yet rehearsed (she nailed em'). Dave Pearcy also sat in with us on keyboards and helped to salvage a couple of classic rockers that needed the male voice. Thanks Dave!! (We hope to have Dave in the White Mo rotation in the future). Overall it was fun evening for all! Thanks Dave for coordinating things and thanks to the fine folks of Charleston's First Presbyterian Church!

As usual, the track was recorded without a soundcheck. Johngineer had to use The Force to set the levels for this stellar recording, proving that his Jedi training does indeed have practical applications.

Thanks to the SIMIE's for having us jam at the 'Fest. As only Chris, John, and myself were in town, Joey sat in on drums and vocals and we played a little rockin' blues. The crowd reaction was increasingly positive as the evening went on (and the keg became lighter). Joey also scrubbed off a couple of acoustic gems with Chris adding a lick here and there. I just had to get a pic of that gorgeous Taylor Special Edition! Hopefully, we can unleash a full White Mo assault for SIMIEFEST 2007!

Whew! It has been a long Holiday/Winter season for the Mo. Plans to get back "in the saddle" were slowed in January by busy schedule's, business trips, and sadly the death of Steve's mother. However, the last few rehearsals have been pretty darn tight and it appears that the blues/rock machine that is The Mo' is ready and itchin to get out and play. We'll be trying to secure some late Winter/Spring dates, so check back for updates.

Well, well, well! After a somewhat shakey start, the Whitemo Blues Jihad ripped pretty well by evenings end. Our thanks to the Greater Huntington Homebrewers Association for their fine hospitality and support. In addition, big thanks to Big Rock And The Candy-Ass Mountain Boys for a fine show and for allowing "Take It Ted Harris" to sit in with us during the second set. Our web master Loren is right in the middle of a major move of residence right now, so it could be a few weeks before links to the show's review and pics are up. Over 75 minutes of blues mayhem is included. Highlights include some impressive guitar work from Mr. Amick on "Double Trouble" and a rousing set ending version of "Midnight Rambler". Big Night In The Home Town!

A huge crowd assembled at The River's Edge Cafe in St. Albans to cheer on WVU's double overtime shocker victory over the Wake Forest Deamon Deacons. Due to the late finish of the game, White Mo started late and rocked on until about 2:am. The crowd stuck with us even though they were literally running out of beer by nights end! A great time and a great crowd. Once again, kudos to Mike Price behind the bar who took care of the band all evening. Also, kudos to Rick Robinson for snapping pics of the show for the website. Pics to be up soon and Mr. Mark should have an in depth analysis of the evening (this should be good!) in the "concerts" section soon. Thank you baby!

Time To Gear Up!

Ok, ok.....everyone keeps asking us when we are playing out again! Its been rough lately with all the family basketball responsibilities and sick kids, but White Mo is looking to start filling up the calendar. Many old haunts have closed or stopped booking bands (usually in favor the hideous Kereoke or "DJ" dance party acts.........read CHEAP) , but some new places have sprung up and we are looking to get our foot in the door to show em' what a full ensemble can do (and, hell, we're also cheap!!). Some other goals for 2005 include a new demo CD for job prospects (just about done), a live album culled from 2004 recordings (in the hopper), and an album of original material (gonna take some time but ideas are coming). We'll keep ya posted. Now go out and whatch some live music near you! Thank you , baby.

Happy 'ought 5 everyone! White Mo is going to spend January finishing up some long overdue recording. In addition, we're going to mull over live recordings from 2004 and select the best for a new combination live/studio LP. The working title for this project has been "Blues Jihad". We'll see if it sticks. We will be setting up some live dates for late Winter/early Spring and working up some new material as well. Take care and go out and support live music any chance you get.

Well....White mo is winding the year down by finishing some recording for our new promo CD. We are still in the naming process and Mark has already suggested "Delusions of Adequacy". "Blues Jihad" is also in the running. We will put on one more show for the year in Charleston for the annual Psy-Care Xmas party and then get ready to stir-up some new material and hit the clubs in 2005. Some goals for the new year include writing and recording some original material, securing some outdoor/festival type gigs, and having the band collectively lose about 100 lbs (except for the already svelte, Steve D.) Quick update! White Mo has had some trouble getting the gang together over the last few weeks due to family responsibilities, Mark's move, Jeff's son's illness, etc....However, we do have the basic backing tracks down for five songs and will continue to record over the next few weeks. I'll update the shows list soon as we have an early December weekend booked at Uno's (Charleston) and are working on a late October/early Novemeber gig (St.Albans, perhaps).

Function at the junction

A pretty good "function at the junction" in St. Albans at the River's Edge Cafe. As most of us hail from the is small WV town, there were the usual reunions from folks we haven't seen for a while. It was an appreciative crowd that rather enjoyed some of the "stretching out" the band did on certain numbers. No major glitches (other than me unintentionally snubbing Mark's solo on "Too Many Womens"). Steve even added a drum solo on "My Baby's Gone" (you don't here that everyday from your average Blues Band). Our thanks to everyone who attended and to Mike behind the bar who took good care of the band throughout the evening. Hopefully, we'll return to the Cafe soon (although we gotta get someone to carry the equipment up those stairs!). Pics to be posted and official Coppola review coming soon...........

Private function this weekend!!Lord have mercy pray for sunshine! There is no back-up plan for rain, so its do or die in Teays Valley. The band is feeling pretty loose about this show and song-lists should be similar to the Uno's shows. Mark is planning on doing a couple of numbers on the skins'in order to give Steve a couple of breaks during the evening. Probably no audio recording on this gig, but we may try to get some video. The audio from the Uno's show turned out well and hopefully, with Loren's help' we'll get some live audio clips posted on the site. Thank you baby!

Mercy Miss Percy! It was sho nuff a function at the junction for White Molasses. The first performance of the "new and improved" White Mo hit the stage at Unos Chicago Grill in Teays Valley this past weekend. Nice crowds on both evenings (though Friday's was a bit more energetic)and the performances went very well. Patrons and management were both impressed and future gigs are in the works. Show reviews and pics to be added soon.

It's been a long time...

Well, its been a while since an update. So , here goes! We've had some decent rehearsals recently and things appear to be coming together pretty well. We've added a couple of harp dominate tunes by Gary Primich to showcase Mark's stunt harp. Here's the real kicker........Mark's doing lead vocals on both (and doing a fine job I might add)!! Finally, I get a break! Mark and I have been experiementing with diffent amps and so far, the Bassman/clones are winning out. John Boy has done gone crazy on the bass front and may surpass me on the "buy em', play em', sell em'" front. Chris seems to have switched guitar allegience to the Gibson ES 135 and now possesses two of them. Steve remains solid on the skins and is really helping out with the musical direction of the band. Fresh off his stint in "Woman Song" (giggle, giggle), he is aching to play the blues. We're rallying the peeps for the Uno's shows. Looks like a function at the junction. This week's practice went much better than the first with the new line-up .The band room changes and the modified Fender Bassman Reissue appeared to vastly improve the dynamics (and the ability of the harp to be heard!). We are pulling out some classic harp tunes (Little Walter, Slim Harpo, James Harman) and should be ready to roll in a few more weeks. We are currently in negotiations with the Uno's Chicago Grill chain and should have a date(s) set soon.

A good practice for White Mo this week with Mark sitting in for the first official practice of the "new" White Molasses. We are still trying to work out dynamics (read VOLUME) of playing together. We are hoping to revamp the set list to include more classic Chicago -style, harp laden blues. Mark's searcing for a more powerful harp amp, while I'm looking for smaller and less powerful type for the guitar. We are hoping to land a gig by the end of March if we can get everyones schedule lined out. Blooze to ya!

Off to a slow start

Well, the new year has started a bit slowly for White Mo. We have been able to squeeze a few good rehearsals in and have learned a couple of new James Harman tunes. We are hoping to get some new demo songs recorded over the next few months and are looking at a gig around the 1st or second week of March. GREAT NEWS for the band. Looks like Mark and family are returning to the Charleston area. We hope to have full-time harp at our disposal very soon. I see a definate trend toward more classic Chicago style blues. Well, the final gig for 2003 is over (see Concert section) and White Mo takes time off for the Holidays. The band will be taking most of January off from performing in order to learn some new material and possibly do some recording. We hope to start playing out again in February 2004. Well, momma told me I'd have days (nights) like these. A small crowd (although it improved late in the evening) and a blown amp at around 1:30am led to an eventful gig at Julie J's. Actually, it went pretty well musically (see concerts section) and the crowd was appreciative. Oh well, back to the ole' amp drawing board.

I spit on CNET

Vivendi sold the assets of mp3.com to CNET last Thursday. CNET immediately and unceremoniously told 250,000 musicians to get their tunes off the premises and elsewhere by December 2, 2003 before they destroy every note, picture, and description of the material. Apparently CNET wanted the name, not the relationship with the artists. There is no public plan at the moment by CNET to offer the service.

Aaargh.

What's this mean? It's a chance to re-think our distribution strategy here at White Molasses, that's what it means! Investigation is occurring as we speak. More to you as soon as we know what we're going to do. For the moment, anyway, we'll self-host until we figure this out.

Rare Monday practice for White Mo (Nov. 3rd). Maybe we should make it a habit! Everything was tight and the sound was better than ever!I used primarily the Blues Jr. for the evening and finally found that "balance" between clean and dirty that I've been looking for. Chris was smoking on the Es 135, especially on the two BB King numbers we do. Steve's new drums continue to impress and we are all waiting for John to break out the G& L for next practice (see guitar gallery). Things look promising for a Nov. 22nd gig at Julie J's (still waiting confirmation) and the two Uno's in the area have our demo CD and info. They will be booking for Jan/Feb 04 later this month. A nice shade of blue

Well, Wednesday was a decent practice for White Mo. Steve brought in a new set for the practice room. A Pacifica by Drumworks in a nice shade of blue over maple. Everyone loved the tone and the room didn't have nearly the "ringing" we've been used to in the past. Steve apparently got a steal on the set from a local kid who hadn't hardly touched them. We ran through some tunes and all were pretty tight. The majority of the evening was spent watching our beloved Mountaineers kick Virginia Tech's ass! Go Mounties!!

Pretty good jam session on Wednesday! It was very nice to see Loren and have him sit in on some songs. Mark was also present to blow some harp. Unfortuneately, the sheer volume level and bad acoustics in the room made it difficlut for Mark to hear himself. This (hearing oneself) has never been a problem for the rest of the band? We'll get back to regular practice schedule next week (Oct. 15th) and we are trying to line up a gig for November sometime.

What a great time at Snowshoe Mt. !! (see review under "concerts") You guys really made us feel welcome as you danced and partied the night away. White will be taking a couple of weeks off as Steve will be going on vaction after this week. Next up is working on some new material (both original and cover) and perhaps some recording. We'll be looking to add a gig sometime in late October/early November. We'll keep you posted!

Flooding with a slight chance...

Well...........hopefully we will get this gig completed in the mountains on Saturday. The forecast looks good for Staturday, but Friday (the day I must travel) shows possible flooding and 40+ wind gusts in the Marlington/Snowshoe area due to Hurricane Isabela coming through! Riding in the storm out..............(hey, there may be a song there).

I spoke with a few friends who were at the Tomahawks gig last weekend. It appears that the "tarbaby that is White Molasses" generated a little interest. A few people have indicated interest in having our "little band" play at various upcoming functions. Hopefully it's not because they think we always play for free beer only and leave behind watches for some lucky audience members. Stay tuned ....

Set 'em up

Well, White Mo had a "set the equipment back-up and try to play" practice on the 10th. Everyone was a bit wiped, but we managed to go through some tunes that we didn't get to at the Tomahawks gig. I tried guitar through the Peavey Delta Blues amp and Harp through the Blues jr. Good things from the junior, but not so good from the Peavey (too much midrange, though the drive channel ain't bad). Peavey and Reverend Hellhound are on the block at Fret-n-Fiddle . I'll be using the Super Reverb and Blues Jr. for the 20th gig. Next practice is set for the 17th with Snowshoe on the 20th.

Well, well! White Mo performs a last minute gig at Tomahawks in Jefferson, WV. For my 40th birthday, my wife and Chris got this gig arranged. I was driven via limo to the show and didn't even have to set up the equipment (definately a first for me). I would like to thank Chris, John, and Steve for helping my wife pull the whole thing off! My wife asked me months ago what I wanted for my birthday. My answer was simply "I want to play with the band". She made it happen along with help from the guys. I won't go on and on about it, but I am married to a very special lady who understands what makes me tick. She's my biggest fan and staunchest supporter. Love ya baby....mean it! Anyway, gig #1 down and things went pretty well. Next practice is set for September 10th. Time to sharpen things up for the gig on the 20th. Peace out!

"Cold Shot" is right out

Last night was rescheduled practice night for White Mo. Everyone was a bit drained from the heat, but not a bad practice all in all. "Cold Shot" has been axed from the set list and we started working on "Suspicious Minds" for future consideration. We all enjoyed a reformulated version of "Going Down" that has a slower , grinding type beat as well as a tempo change to a "train" chug near the end. As of yet, we were still unable to line up a gig for the 6th of September. Tentatively, next practice is scheduled for September 3rd.

Demo time

Recording day at the house. Worked on a new version of "Older, Wider, Wiser". This one is slowed down a bit and I feel it captures the mood of the song a little better. Added harp for the first time on a song and, hopefully, someday I will be able to really play the thing. A decent demo and hopefully the full band can record it soon. Look for it on the Mp3 site shortly after Labor Day.

Last night was practice night for White Mo. We took some average digital photos (due to poor lighting) and hopefully those will be up soon on the band members page. Chris brought the Vibrolux down and attempted dual amp switching, but the A-B reared its ugly head again. We all loved the clean tones Chris was getting (and hating), but I fear we won't see the Vibrolux back anytime soon. As Chris says, "I yam what I yam"! We discussed possibly trying to get a short notice gig for September 6th. Next practice is scheduled for Thursday 28, August.

Testing.1....2......3.....Sibalence. How goes it out there in Cyberspace? White Mo is up and out there!! Thanks to Loren (Site Master and Zen Lap Steel guitarist) for all the hard work! In reference to Mark's comment about the harp, the backing tracks we were practicing to actually had pre-recorded harp solos on them. I am truly the world's first "air harpist". I don't want to learn to play, I just want to buy all the cool crap.
